I was just trying to explain to my mother what kind of music these guys made. I lost her when I said “Clint Eastwood” and “cartoon”. But damn I still love this shit.

“The most powerful being ever created a universe of over 100 billion galaxies, each with over 100 billion stars like our sun, which existed for 14 billion years, and then picked one of the 100 billion galaxies and picked one of the 100 billion stars in that galaxy, and picked one planet revolving around that star and of the million species on that planet he picked one animal member of all those species and said: ‘I’ve really got to tell that guy to stop gathering sticks on the Sabbath’” —Michael Nugent, chairman of Atheist Ireland group (via liberal-life)

“

People who think that no one uses welfare/food stamps to actually buy things they need can tell that to my hungry 11 year old self who wouldn’t have had decent lunches or meat (at all) without government assistance.

Oh, and who might have gone hungry if there had been drug testing involved. Thanks. I’m glad that you know more about my life than I do! If only I had realized sooner that my mom wasn’t really buying food with that money! I mean, I don’t know what she was doing with it, since our lives were fucking awful at that point and we had a grand total of zero luxuries (I shared a room with my mom! In the basement of my grandma’s condo! I did laundry for the whole house to earn enough dimes to buy myself sodas and candy!), but really, please, enlighten me.

Also, as a child of a drug addict, this law fucking terrifies me. The idea that some kid who is trying to cope with having an addict for a parent (not always easy) also might go hungry or without new clothes or whatnot because some privileged assholes think poor people have to be suffering saints to qualify for help literally makes me cry to think about.

Palin Fans Trying to Edit Wikipedia Paul Revere Page → littlegreenfootballs.com

Man, you’ve gotta almost admire the sheer dedication of Sarah Palin’s wingnut acolytes. Now they’re trying to edit the Wikipedia page for “Paul Revere” to make it match Palin’s botched version of history. Here’s the Revision history of Paul Revere; check out the edits that are being reversed. Also see the discussion page for an entertaining exchange between Wikipedia editors and a would-be revisionist.

It’s like I said - people aren’t ignorant of the facts, they’re just playing the game Turdblossom created. If the truth doesn’t suit you, just repeat a lie to the right people and they’ll do the dirty work for you.

They’re defending the edits because the LA Times reported her saying it, because the LA Times would never print something that someone said that wasn’t historical fact.

This is from the discussion page on the article:

I kindly remind people that it’s not our job here at Wikipedia to decide what’s true, but to report what reliable sources say, such as the LA Times, WDHD TV in Boston, numerous others. And they quoted an American politician saying that bells were used.

-Joe

Fuckin’ bells man, fuckin bells.

Do people outside of MA learn about the Revolution? Or would that counteract the view that New Englanders aren’t “real Americans”?

We don’t get much (at least in California), a little bit of Boston Massacre and the real Tea Party but other than that it’s mostly glossed over. Usually goes straight from pilgrims to Declaration of Independence to Civil War. On the other hand I don’t imagine Massachusetts kids get too much time spent on the gold rush or the transcontinental railroads, we had to write sooo many essays on the forty-niners on this coast.

I mean really that’s the funniest part of this whole thing. I’m not an expert on the story of Paul Revere, I’m sure most of my offhand knowledge on this subject is pretty steeped in folklore. But I also don’t claim to have a hard-on for the founding fathers, I have never proposed that we go back to true ideals of 1776, I have never participated in a group that named itself after an event in the Revolutionary War. That’s the real heart of this whole Palin/Paul Revere story “Face of group named after Revolutionary War event doesn’t know anything about Revolutionary War figure, possibly Revolutionary War in general”

-Joe

Not only do they not know the real story of Paul Revere’s ride, their ignorance shows through with taking the name of “Tea Party,” showing they have absolutely NO, or at the very most a third grade understanding, idea of what the Boston Tea Party was actually protesting: corporate greed backed by the reigning government. Forget the racism that drips from most of what they say, the fact that they obviously have no background information on what happened then is what really makes me laugh at them. Ignorance begets ignorance, and these people are full of it.
